"My income was too high to qualify for the health department program but I don’t make enough to afford a mammogram. I had health insurance a few years back but my deductible too high so I cancelled it. I am 57 and couldn't afford a mammogram, but because of this program, I was able to make an appointment. When I called, the nurse was very helpful and got me right in to see the nurse practitioner. It was very easy and effective. Everyone was so pleasant and understanding about those without insurance. I had the mammogram right after my appointment. It was so convenient having both on the same day. I know more about what I need to do for my breast health and I would certainly recommend this program to other women. I don’t have to worry about something being wrong. Thank you for your help."

"I was fortunate to be referred to MSU Breast Clinic by my physician, who spoke highly of their staff, knowledge and treatments. I was so impressed with Mary Smania RN (who treated me) and her compassion and bedside manner, but most importantly, she listened to my financial concerns and me after it was recommended to have further testing. When Mary told me that the grant helps people in my situation, tears immediately ran down my face. I was speechless and overwhelmed with emotion and thankfulness. I cannot express enough of the gratitude I felt. Mary understands the need of educating communities and most importantly, she truly cares. She is one of a kind and she is truly an advocate who is not afraid to get out there and make a difference."

"I would have received very large bills without this grant. My insurance would not cover the six- month follow-up mammogram that the radiologist was recommending. I was so grateful that Mary and her grant was able to cover it. I ended up needing a core biopsy, which fortunately was benign but I was very worried. Everything has fell into place so smoothly and the people in the clinic were wonderful and encouraging- very kind and helpful. It was most helpful getting all of the information I needed to ease my mind. They were so helpful in getting this visit set up for me. I would have been lost without their guidance. Julie was phenomenal helping me in the radiology department. This is a wonderful program."
